Update July 7. 2010

Hello Friends,

pic1I invite you to review the article which I wrote and was just published yesterday at http://www.gopjournal.com/?p=1032 entitled "Is the McMahon Republican Endorsement Valid?"  The exclusive article deals with legal issues of multiple substantive defects of the Certificate of Endorsement which Linda McMahon filed with the Office of the Secretary of State on June 2nd as well as of very crucial related political issues.  All is of substantial public interest!

The article is published together with the attached photograph which was taken by Cheryl Lemos at the Statewide Tea Party Rally held on July 4th at Booth Memorial Park in Stratford, CT.  The photograph was taken while I was addressing a group of about 350 people.  The rally was a great success!  I welcome your comments on the article!

Update June 25th, 2010

Hello Friends,

You may find interest in the attached letter which I sent yesterday to Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz regarding substantive defects to the Certificate of Endorsement which Linda McMahon presented to the Secretary of State on June 2nd.  Some of the observed defects are substantive including that the Certificate is of a form which was not officially promulgated by the legislative Regulation Review Committee as is requried of the Uniform Administrative Procedure Act, or that the Certificate was not "properly completed", a mandatory requirement of the non-promulgated form.  These are some of the legitimate bases for a citizen to legally deem the Certificate to be void.  In the terms of the defective Certificate, the Republican Party has not made an endorsement of any candidate for the position of the United States Senate.  In addition, pursuant to the Uniform Administrative Procedure Act, I seek of the Secretary of State a declaratory ruling to affirm these positions.

In the event that there is not proper recognition of the substantive issues which I raise, there would be options of a Court challenge, likely in federal court where I, this campaign and the general public can seek a mandamus (i.e., an order of emergency temporary injunction based on the probability of success on the merits) and civil damages (i.e., in the context of all six issues of defects of the Certificate form and related matters).  The consideration of whether the matters which I have raised, if not existant, would have made any substantial difference on the outcome of the campaign, convention and related processes to date, would be an issue for the ultimate trier of fact, that is, a competent jury.

There are those occasions where a proper, lawful challenge is a suited means to effect desired change.

I welcome your review and comments!

Update June 6th, 2010

Hello Tea Party Associates and Supporters,

I have consistently described myself as a strict constitutionalist and as one who promotes conservative fiscal and social policies.  As is described in the letter that I just sent to Christopher Healey, Chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party, I also affirm that there are sufficient facts upon which to base formal Articles of Impeachment against President Obama.  This is not a matter of recent development by me rather is one which has been progressing formally since at least February of this year.

In my various visits to Tea Party events across the State, there is often a question posed to me of how my candidacy is distinguished from that of Peter Schiff.  While there are various points of contrast, I frequently point out that Peter Schiff is anti-war whereas I am conservative or discerning in matters of war, also that he is a libertarian whereas I am socially conservative.  While there are some other points to distinquish us, these two have summarized key differences (I point out that one Tea Party patriot recently commented to me that my campaign platform better addresses the heart of key Tea Party principles than that of any other candidate.).  However, as is apparent from the following letter to Mr. Healey, a specific point which has been part of my platform is that of the existence of proper lawful causes for impeachment of President Obama (i.e., for Articles of Impeachment to be presented by the House of Representatives and thereupon investigated and decided by the Senate).  The potential issues of impeachment and of the impending national purpose and need for this grows continuously.

However, despite my proper and timely assertions of such matters (as is described in my letter), there has been essentially NO response from other candidates including Mr. Schiff.  The crucial significance of this impeachment issue has become such that I prepared and sent the following letter to Mr. Healey (with copy distribution to Mr. Schiff and others).  As is clear and specific in the letter, because of their non-response and lack of leadership on such an important and pressing matter, I formally request that Linda McMahon and Peter Schiff fully and effectively withdraw their campaigns for the United States Senate.  If, by chance, there is any cause whereby Mr. Schiff is not convinced or compelled to satisfy my request, then by this means (of which Mr. Schiff is also being provided a copy), I formally request Mr. Schiff to a public forum which, for the timing, should be held at a convenient time and location either this evening or tomorrow evening (i.e., prior to the Tuesday afternoon deadline for the filing of petition forms for a formal primary campaign).

This challenge makes good sense, is reasonable and it is in the public interest.

I welcome the review and responses of Mr. Schiff and of the other recipients of this important message!

Update June 04, 2010

Hello Friends,
The petition drive for a primary against McMahon progresses.  This week an installment of 80 signatures was presented in Fairfield and Bridgeport.  87 other signatures from voters in 35 towns are also ready; from Stamford and Ridgefield to N. Stonington and Pomfret.  Also, 16 other petition circulators are participating.
This is a good solid beginning but obviously much more is necessary for the Tuesday afternoon deadline!  I continue to assert that my campaign platform has more depth and breadth than that of any other candidate.  I am a strict constitutionalist and I promote conservative fiscal and social policies.  The issues are right and the time is right!

Update May 28, 2010

Hello Friends,

Since my previous Campaign Up-Date, I have fully decided to petition for a primary challenge against Party endorsed Linda McMahon.  On Monday, I obtained from the Secretary of State the necessary forms and with the support of various, a signature drive has begun and is under way.  It is required that the campaign obtain 8268 signatures by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8th.  It is a big task but particularly with the political factors known and understood, it becomes doable!

Since my previous Up-Date in which I published the nominating and seconding speeches which were available for this candidacy during the Connecticut Republican Convention proceedings of the evening of Friday, May 21st (also available here at the attachment), there also has been published on the campaign website the video which was available and planned to be presented at the Convention.  The two speeches together with the video make a powerful statement of support for this candidacy.  Further to the previous Up-Date, I also point out that there are various credible facts which suggest that there was improper influencing to diminish my ability to get qualified delegates to give the nominating speeches.  The information (for which I am willing to provide additional detail) suggests that the improper influencing came from either the Schiff camp or the McMahon camp. In all events, the petition drive progresses.  Just this morning as I was waiting for the Fairfield Public Library to open, I obtained signatures from others also waiting.

Since the Convention, there have been several important developments.  On Tuesday morning, Rob Simmons publicly announced that he was suspending his campaign.  Second, the Quinnipiac University just released a poll in which despite all the scurry and buz about Democrat Party candidate Richard Blumenthal's misstatements of having served in the military in Viet Nam, and despite the Republican Convention's recent endorsement of Linda McMahon, Blumenthal still leads McMahon in popularity polls by 56% to 31%. A focus of the poll was experience of the two candidates.

For various good reasons, I am the Republican Party's best opportunity to defeat Mr. Blumenthal in November!

  1. I am well educated and experienced in matters of government.
  2. I have good knowledge and understanding of the law.
  3. My campaign platform (readily available at the campaign website) offers more and better contrast to Mr. Blumenthal.  I am a strict constitutionalist and I promote conservative fiscal and social policies.
  4. I lived and worked for eight years in Latin America and am fluent in Spanish.  For these and other reasons, I am a multi-cultural candidate.
  5. There are good factors which constitute favorable political hooks for a direct challenge to Mr. Blumenthal.  Some of this is understood from my campaign website where there is a letter which I sent to Mr. Blumenthal on January 9, 2010.  Among other good points, there is my statement that "you and officials under your authority abuse your positions to influence officials of state agencies and state courts as collateral attack against citizens who might have legitimate federal claims against state officials or against the state".  That statement has major significance!  What was alleged against former President Richard Nixon and what was alleged against former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer is pale in comparison with this undisputed statement.  To compare this statement with other useful tools such as are detailed in the seconding speech (at attachment), it is clear that this campaign has various valuable tools for a direct challenge by me against Mr. Blumenthal!
  6. There is cause to believe that this candidacy will benefit from several additional months of campaigning.  I did not make a formal announcement of this candidacy until February 25th, more than six months after the other Republican candidates were in full campaign mode.  Also, for various preliminary matters, the campaign did not get into active mode until the April 13th Candidates' Day at Sacred Heart University.  Thus, with additional campaign time and the other campaign assets as are described above, there is more reason to expect a different outcome for me than for the other contending Republican candidates.

Thus, what we have before us is both practical and strategic. With this candidacy, we can block Mr. Blumenthal and begin to put America back on track!

This evening at 9 p.m., I will be at a gathering for Congressional Candidate Jerry Labriola to be held at the River's Edge Bar and Grill in Derby.  Tomorrow morning between 7 and 9 a.m., I will be at the annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast of St. Paul's Church in Fairfield (located on Old Post Road next to the Old Town Hall).  From 10 a.m. to noon, I will be at the Fairfield Memorial Day Parade.  I tentatively plan to be at the main entrance of Trumbull Mall beginning at 8:30 p.m. to collect petition signatures.  All will be welcomed to share in any or all portions of this schedule.

I am a conservative Republican.  I am not a liberal Republican, a neo-conservative or a libertarian.  Rather, I have been a conservative Republican since before it became politically popular to be conservative!

Our nation is not simply in a financial crisis.  Rather, our great nation also faces a constitutional crisis and a moral crisis.  There is good cause to again say that "we have a rendevous with destiny".

Will you join with me in holding the standard high?

Ethan Book
